THE REFUGE : A NATURE VACATION This is a different way of spending your holiday in Skyros. Explore the island and enjoy an authentic Agro Tourism Holiday in a NATURA 2000 area of Skyros Island in the beautiful Aegean Sea.

The accommodation is situated on a traditional farm with an area which represents the highest value for natural habitats and species of plants and rare animals, endangered or vulnerable. The landscapes in these areas are characterised by their unique natural beauty. The farm is a good size with its own natural springs and a forest.

The Refuge stands alone on the side of a mountain, in a panoramic setting overlooking the valley of Kalikri, the sea and the surrounding mountains. It is an ideal starting point for discovering the beauty of the Natura 2000 landscape . Ideal for climbers as this is the start of the paths to the mountainous area. Even if there is mist, rain or snow in the winter, this is always a very welcoming and warm place to stay.

The Refuge and farm are owned by the family Sher and they guarantee a very pleasant stay in comfortable and traditional furnished rooms. The Refuge is built from natural materials such as wood and stones collected from the farm's fields. They are traditional bio-farmers offering many activities, such as bee keeping, goats and sheep milking, feeding of the animals, cheese and yogurt making and nature observation. As well as authentic farmers' breakfasts and meals made mainly from their own bio products, there are the possibilities of climbing in the mountains with a guide and herb walking tours. They also hold barbeques. The area is an ideal place for nature lovers and walkers. Children also have the opportunity to sample this way of life.

Distance from the crystal waters of Kalamitsa beach is 3 km. From Skyros traditional village 10 Km.  From Skyros port of Linaria 7 Km. From Traditional tavernas 1 and 3 km. From a farm breeding the unique Skyrian horses 1Km.

The Refuge consists of two good sized, comfortable rooms - they can be rented separately, but is also ideal for 2 couples on holiday together or a couple with children. An extra bed can be put in either of the rooms. There are quality, traditional furnishings, stoves and a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, dishwasher, washing machine and cooker. There is also a large, family dining table. Outside there are many terraces for relaxing, reading and organising meals. Additionally, sunbathing!

Cost per room for 2 persons all season round 40 Euros - both rooms rented together 80 Euros per night. Extra person in room additional 11 Euros.

Use of kitchen facilities, 5 Euros per room per night. In the kitchen there will be a supply of coffee, tea (black and local herbal teas) a fresh loaf of bread each day, sugar, oil and spices. In fact all the basic items for preparing your own meals.  If breakfast is provided by the owners, then there is an additional cost of 10 Euros per person per day (reduction for small children).  Other meals can be provided at 10 Euros per person, upon request.

Access to the farm is necessary by 4 wheel drive - bring your own if travelling overland and ferry, or one can be hired on the island.  We can assist you with the rental of this through our partner car hire company.

The concept of The Refuge is to offer inexpensive, but quality holidays for all nature lovers.

Zorbathes is a peaceful valley which is hidden close to the centre of Skiathos Island. It is green & fertile & surrounded by pine forests. Through the bottom of the valley run stream beds whose banks are covered by an abundance of wild flowers & ferns, & are shaded by massive plane trees. Our end of the island, which is closest to the Pelion Peninsular, receives a goodly amount of winter rain & the lushness of the valley & the surrounding pine forests reflect this.

The houses are just 5 minutes drive from the nearest sandy beaches.

The price below is per house, per day, and is for up to 6 people. Extra children (maximum 1 more) would be charge a 25 Euros per day supplement. The price includes transfer, hot & cold water, electricity, regular maid service, weekly cleaning & change of linen, & provisions for the first morning’s breakfast.
To hold a reservation the deposit required is 20% of the total with the balance payable 8 weeks before arrival. We will confirm your booking by email upon receipt of your deposit.

THE BARN  :  Sleeps 7 to 8 people in 4 bedrooms. The accommodation consists of a fully equipped kitchen & open-plan living room with French doors leading out to the patio. There is a bathroom with bath and shower & a smaller bathroom with just shower facilities. The bedrooms are situated in two "wings". One wing has a large bedroom with a double bed, a small bedroom with a single bed and an extra bed in a small sleeping "loft". The other (newly built) wing has a double bed in a smaller bedroom and 2 single beds in a large upstairs bedroom with a balcony.

THE FARMHOUSE  : Sleeps 6 to 7 people in 4 bedrooms.The accommodation consists of a large, fully equipped kitchen, with steps leading down to "The Snug" where the fireplace is situated. There is a bathroom with bath & shower, & a smaller toilet with hand-basin upstairs. Downstairs there is a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom & a twin bedroom. Upstairs is another double bedroom & a small, 1 person, sleeping "loft" (ideal for a child). There is ample room for 1 bed to be added should it be necessary for a large family or group.
